A week at the floor and a break in the line mean opposite things here. The long line is our own case corpus counted by decision date, and a week DOL decided nothing is drawn at zero rather than left out: in October 2025 that is three straight weeks on the floor, two determinations in thirty days, ending when DOL announced on the 31st that it’d resumed application processing. Why it stopped is not established here. The one BREAK in the line, before the point on the right, is ours and not DOL’s: the quarterly file ends on 2026-06-30 and the per-case scan of flag.dol.gov begins on 2026-08-13, and drawing those 44 days as zero would invent a second national stoppage that never happened. A weekday clears about 494 decisions and a weekend day about 67. Weekend work is small and it is routine rather than exceptional: 254 of 287 Saturdays and Sundays carry at least one determination.

A weekend day runs about an eighth of a weekday, and most weekend days carry work rather than none. That matters for any rate quoted per working day: counting a Saturday as a working day drags the figure down without saying so. DOL PERM disclosure files

Both bars share one scale. A quarter is dated by the day the decision landed, not by the day the case was filed, so a bar describes what DOL did in those three months rather than how a filing cohort fared. Quarters at the ends of the record are partial and carry their own decided count.

The heaviest and lightest days

Weekdays only, on both ends. A quietest-day list that includes Sundays says nothing except that they were Sundays.

24 weekdays in the record carry no determination at all, so the quietest list is a list of ties. They are federal holidays and the October 2025 stoppage, and they are real days rather than gaps in the data: this series is counted from the case corpus, so a day with no cases decided produces no row, and those days are read as zero rather than as unmeasured.
